What is Talk Therapy?
Talk therapy is traditional in person counseling to process life transitions and mental health concerns. It is not, client lies on the couch talking while the psychotherapist analyzes it all, like the movies still often portray. It is an open therapeutic relationship between client and counselor and moves at the client’s pace having an opportunity to explore their negative thoughts and uncomfortable emotions they are experiencing. Talk therapy helps clients learn about themselves through processing the information aloud with their counselor; and further, allows them to gain insight into coping skills when the counseling relationship is no longer there. Often individuals avoid moving forward with scheduling an appointment due fear uncomfortably and uncertainly. Specifically my approach to talk therapy involves creative art interventions to assist in in that.
